History
[edit]I have edited the History section of this article, and have deleted the section claiming that there was “considerable high level discussions” about extending the Central Line to Epping via Theydon Bois. I have deleted it firstly as no one has been able to provide a citation to back-up these claims since June 2013; and secondly as the Wiki article for the 1935-40 New Works Programme makes no mention of the claim, but in fact confirms the plans where always for the Central Line to be extended from Stratford to Epping via Theydon Bois.(Spymo (talk) 16:03, 7 August 2014 (UTC))
Inaccuracies in edit added on 7 Aug 2015
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
The anonymous addition to the "History" section dated 08:59, 7 August 2015 is both pejorative and grossly factually inaccurate. It says:
"In 2015, the local NIMBY group "TBAG" successfully prevented planning permission for a new 80-space commuter car park sought by TfL on land to the east of the station."
1. "NIMBY" is a pejorative term. TBAG is the Theydon Bois Action Group (http://www.theydonbois-actiongroup.co.uk), which has the stated aim of protecting the Green Belt around Theydon Bois. The Green Belt has protection in law, but it requires constant vigilance on the part of concerned citizens to ensure that the law is adhered to. The land on which TfL planned to build a car park is in the Green Belt and therefore the process of lawful development requires close scrutiny.
2. TBAG have not "prevented planning permission". Reading the linked local news article, and previous articles, will show that TfL intended to build on the land *without* obtaining planning permission. TfL asserted that they had Permitted Development Rights under Victorian railway legislation and the local authority (Epping Forest District Council) agreed. TBAG disagreed, took legal advice and applied for a Judicial Review of EFDC's decision. Immediately on issue of the JR in the High Court EFDC sought an out of court settlement with an undertaking from TfL that they would not develop any station commuter car park without first obtaining grant of full planning permission. See http://www.theydonbois-actiongroup.co.uk/2015/07/31/tbag-wins-legal-action-judicial-review-application-withdrawn/ for full details.

Thank you Altamel for responding. Unfortunately I think that there is still a significant factual error in this piece, which is to state that TBAG "[advocated] against planning permission". TBAG did not advocate against planning permission. TfL were attempting to develop the land without the need for planning permission and the accompanying scrutiny and consultation which would be required, under Permitted Development Rights. What TBAG argued against was the legality of the Permitted Development Rights which TfL wanted to exercise. This was a technical legal point which TfL have not conceded, but they have settled out of court having given an undertaking not to proceed with their development unless they submit a full Planning Application and get it approved.
Rather than "advocacy against" I think that it would be more accurate to say that TBAG was successful in its "campaign to require" planning permission for a new car park.
